Playwright Competitions looking for Submissions

There are a number of organizations accepting submissions for playwrighting composition. Here are some of the most notable, and more can be found at Voices and Venues. Bonne chance!

The Lavender Footlights Festival is seeking submissions for the Seventh Annual Lavender Footlights Festival to be held in Miami on February 28th – March 2nd, 2009.

Past years have included pieces by noted playwrights such as Ricky J. Martinez, Stuart Meltzer, Hal Corey, Michael McKeever, Claudia Allen and Tony nominated playwright Douglas Carter Beane. The festival has also included many works by emerging writers. The plays are staged as readings and are directed and presented by the best of South Florida theatre actors and directors.

The Lavender Footlights Festival is dedicated to providing a voice and a venue for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, transgender and Queer plays and supporting the work of emerging playwrights, directors and actors.

National Children's Theatre Festival Coral Gables
We invite the submission of original scripts for Musicals to be judged by a distinguished panel from both professional and academic theatre. The First-Place Winner will be the featured production of the 2009 NCTF and part of the 2008-2009 Musical Theatre for Young Audiences series at the Miracle Theatre. The winner will be selected on merit, and Actors' Playhouse reserves the right to withhold awarding a prize if no appropriate candidates are available. Only unpublished scripts will be considered; we encourage submission of works that have received limited production exposure, workshops, or staged readings.

Inside Out Theatre is now accepting submissions for its emerging artist playreading series. We are looking for anything new, unusual, innovative or just plain out there.

Playwrights may submit up to five full-length scripts of any genre (excepting children's theatre) along with a short biography and contact information. Selected scripts will be given a staged reading/workshop with professional actors, directors and producers and will be followed by an audience feedback session. Selected scripts will also be considered for full production in IOTC's '08-'09 season.

Please submit all scripts and address all inquiries to Autumn Horne, Creative Director.
