The Miami New Times polls its readers to select the Very Best of each year.
These are the winners in the Theatre category for 2009.
Unlike their sibling to the north, the Miami edition doesn't break down the list into logical sub-categories, so theatre is lumped in with everything in a giant list called Diversions instead of a sensible category like "performing arts" or "arts and entertainement." Theatre might just as logically be lumped in with "City Life," which seams to have absolutely nothing to do with city life per se, but is about politics and such. Oh, well.

As you can see, the Miami list has more categories than the Broward/Palm Beach list. But of the cross overs, how do you think they compare?

- Best Production: Some Girls, Mad Cat Theatre Company
- Best Actor: Meshuan Labrone Arnold, The Hate U Gave, Ground Up and Rising Theatre
- Best Actress: A three way tie: Brandii Edwards, Carey Edwards, and Carolyn Johnson, From The Delta, M Ensemble.
- Best Supporting Actor, Paul Tei, Defiance, Gablestage
- Best Supporting Actress: Lela Elam, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, Ground Up and Rising.
- Best Ensemble: Betrayed, GableStage.
- Best Director: Joseph Adler, Adding Machine, Gablestage
- Best Costume Design: Ellis Tillman, 1776 (actually, specifically for Shane Tanner's tights), Actors' Playhouse at the Miracle Theater.
- Best Set Design, 4.48 psychosis, Naked Stage
- Best New Play, Betrayed, Gablestage.
- Best Musical, Adding Machine, GableStage.
