The Scene for November 4, 2011

This year is flying by - we've barely scraped the pumpkin off the stoop, and the stores are already pushing Christmas on us. Bastards.

In the meantime, the theatre season is in full swing now, and this weekend it's been keeping the reviewers very busy.  Very busy, indeed.

Here's what's playing on The Scene this weekend:

opening...

Alfred Hitchcocks' The 39 Steps opens at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre. If you missed the tour that came through two years ago, or last year's production at Actors' Playhouse, don't miss it this time; it only plays through November 13.

Zoetic Stage opens its first full season at the Arsht Center with Christopher Demos-Brown's Captiva.  If the title looks familiar, Florida Stage was supposed to premiere, but went belly-up instead.  Or maybe you read about it on Florida Theater On Stage.

The Tale of the Allergist's Wife opens at the Boca Raton Theatre Guild, through November 20. It features SoFla favorites Patti Gardner, Barbara Sloan, and Iris Acker, directed by Genie Croft.

GableStage opens its long-anticipated production of RED.  Through December 4, 2011.

Laffing Matterz returns to the Broward Center's Abdo New River Room, for its third season of dinner and comedy.

A few blocks up Flagler from the FAT Village, Infinite Abyss is finishing its production of Mitzi's Abortion at Empire Stage on  November 5th.

for kids...

Actors' Playhouse presents Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day on Saturdays through November 19.

Sylvester and the Magic Pebble plays Sunday, November 6 at the Broward Center.  It's part of their Family Fun series, which means it begins pre-show with free arts and crafts activities provided by Young At Art Museum and face painting by Curly Sue and friends.
