The Scene for July 6, 2012

Another 4th of July without finding one TV station running the musical 1776.  What's with that?  Every other holiday, we're inundated with movies, and yet one of our most important holidays, with a show that's both historical AND entertaining, and it's nowhere to be found.  I guess they should have thrown in some zombies.

It's a light week, but here's what's playing on The Scene this first weekend in July...

GableStage's long anticipated production of David Mamet's Race opens this weekend at their intimate space in The Biltmore Hotel.

New Theatre opens and closes its Miami 1-Acts Festival this weekend; it's a benefit featuring the work of 14 playwrights, 14 directors, and 36 actors.

Cabaret Verboten plays at the Theatre at Arts Garage through July 30, 2012.

Florida Atlantic University's summer season consists of Showtune: A Jerry Herman Musical Revue, running in repertory with  Love's Labor's Lost through July 21.

Actors' Playhouse at the Miracle Theater offers Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, through August 4.
