The Scene for December 5, 2014

WE hope you’ve gotten through the last of your Thanksgiving leftovers.  And now that we’re past THAT holiday weekend, everyone is trying to open their shows before the next holiday sets in.  Nine local productions and one national tour all open this week in South Florida.

And just because it’s fun, you have two different versions of Fiddler on the Roof and A Christmas Carol.  OK. so one Fiddler is a professional production while the other is college show, but the dueling Christmas Carols are on a more or less equal footing.  One’s in Palm Beach County, the other in Miami-Dade, if you’re in Broward, flip a coin.

Fiddler on the Roof opens at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre, through December 21.
 
Palm Beach Dramaworks opens its production of Israel Horovitz’ My Old Lady.  Through January 4, 2015.
 
Actors’ Playhouse opens Miracle On South Division Street at The Miracle Theater, through December 28.
  
The Wick Theatre opens the classic musical Mame, starring Leslie Uggams.  Yes, you read that right.
 
Empire Stage opens its holiday offering, Silver Balls, and yes, it’s probably exactly what you’re thinking.  Merry Christmas!
 
Outré Theatre Company opens its production of Othello at The Broward Center for the Performing Arts, through December 21.
 
A Chorus Line opens at the Crest Theatre in the Delray Center for the Arts, through December 14.
 
Island City Stage revives its critically acclaimed production of The Timekeepers at the Levis JCC in Boca Raton.
 
The Project Theatre opens their latest, um, project; U.S. Drag, but Gina Gionfriddo.  It plays at 5600 Space through December 21.
